San Angelo is located in Tom Green County in Texas. It is also considered part of Concho Valley, the region of West Texas. This is the center of the San Angelo metropolitan area. According to the 2014 US Census estimate, San Angelo had a population of over 100,000.
Interestingly, before European settlers arrived, San Angelo was inhabited by the Jumano people. San Angelo, the current city, was then founded in 1867. This happened when the United States built Fort Concho. This was part of a series of forts that were built in order to protect the frontier. Residents and visitors can check out the Fort Concho Museum to learn more about it!
San Angelo is also home to Angelo State University and the Goodfellow Air Force Base. In terms of art, culture, and entertainment, there is the Museum of Art, along with other galleries and theatres. The University also puts on plays that the city can enjoy.
